A positive psychology consultant explains how we can make our daily lives happier.
Many of us believe that we will be happier when we reach milestones; from buying a house, getting a promotion and a new car to getting engaged or getting married. But positive psychology consultant Casey Paul explains that we don't have to wait to be happy.
"Happiness is not an unattainable goal that you will finally 'reach' when X, Y, Z happens," says Casey. "Many people see happiness as a place they will get to and imagine it as a future state that can only be achieved when certain conditions are met."
Casey explains that we can actually make every day happier by making simple adjustments to our daily activities.
How to make every day happier
"In my work as a positive psychology counsellor, I do an exercise with clients where I ask them to imagine they are living their dream day as the happiest version of themselves, and then to tell me what they imagined."

Casey explains that her clients often cite things that are easily achievable, such as spending more time in nature, getting up earlier or socialising more with friends. Despite these easily achievable things, Casey says people are still waiting for the perfect time to be happy rather than making changes.
She explains that if we start to make the things we do every day a little more magical, we will automatically live a happier life.
"Instead of waiting to do these things 'when you're happy' - if you start doing them now and truly embody that version of yourself now, your whole reality will change rapidly," Casey assures.
"Some of the things we do every day in our lives may seem like chores, but transforming them will increase your happiness. You can enrich everyday experiences and ordinary moments to improve your everyday life," says Casey.
"By doing so, you'll cultivate many more positive emotions that support your health, strengthen relationships, help you be more engaged in your tasks and, as a result, achieve more - all key pillars to living your happiest life."
How to raise the level of everyday life
"Hacking your way to happiness" means that you need to check in with yourself and make sure that moments matter and that you are living as if you already have all the happiness you want.
5 ways to improve your everyday life
1.Slow down
Stop rushing through life. Start being proactive with your time and spend your days with more intention and presence, enjoying the moments.
2. Declutter your space
Clean up your environment, get rid of clutter and create a beautiful home that inspires you. Clutter is a source of stress, it's proven.
3. Make every day a special occasion
Stop waiting for special occasions and celebrations to light the most beautiful candle, put on your favourite shoes, drink coffee from a boutique cup, buy flowers. Make every day a special occasion.
4. Take action to feel better
Add positivity boosters to your daily activities such as showering, driving, cooking, drinking tea. You can turn your shower experience into a spa experience by using your best smelling shower gel or adding essential oils you love; listening to an inspiring podcast while driving, which always improves your mood; trying new recipes and creating themed dinners, making sure you set the table right when cooking for a luxury dining experience. While sipping your morning coffee or tea, you can link this to writing a list of things you are grateful for.
5. Play games with your life
Make boring tasks more interesting by setting yourself rewards or challenges. Turn everyday tasks into a game to make them more fun.
