Today I'm going to talk about a very delicate story for me and how I managed to get to success (by my standards). The example is from my Slovenian blog!
How to succeed when you have no support: my story of perseverance and learning from scratch
Have you ever felt like you have to believe in yourself because no one else does? That you have to motivate yourself because you don't have the support of those around you? That is exactly what I experienced. When I came home after school, I knew I wanted to create something, but I didn't have anyone to encourage me. All I had was my desire to create and my stubbornness to keep going.
Today, almost six years later, my blog has almost 93,000 views. I started from scratch, with no help, no guidance, no knowledge of writing, promotion or audience building. I learned everything on my own - and in the process I realised that belief in myself and perseverance are more important than external support. In this blog, I want to share my story and some tips on how to motivate yourself even when no one supports you.
Beginning without support
When I finished school and returned home, I was faced with an unpleasant reality - no support for my ideas. My parents didn't believe I could achieve anything with my blog and no one gave me any guidance on how to get started. I could have just given up and agreed with them. I could have said to myself, "I mean, they're right, what do I even know about this?"
But instead I said to myself, "Why don't I try?"
I started writing, researching, learning. I didn't know how to promote a blog, how to build an audience, how to optimise your posts so that people find you - but I found all the answers myself. I was also learning English because I wanted to understand as many sources as possible.
I gradually built, tested, learned from my mistakes and persevered.
How I motivated myself when it was hard
Of course there were moments of doubt. Sometimes I wondered if anyone was reading my writings. Is it worth the effort? Will I ever achieve anything concrete?
Then I realised the key thing: if I don't believe in myself, no one else will either.
I started setting myself small goals - e.g. to write one post a week, to improve one aspect of my blog, to learn one new thing about writing or promotion. Instead of waiting for external validation, I learned to find satisfaction in my own progress.
What does science say about motivation without support?
Psychology says that intrinsic motivation is often stronger than extrinsic motivation. Here are three key concepts that validate my experience:
1. Self-determination theory - People are most motivated when we feel we are doing something for ourselves, by choice. That's why it's important to find something that really interests you.
2. Growth mindset - If you believe you can learn, you will progress. Successful people are not those who already know everything, but those who learn.
3. Intrinsic motivation - If you are genuinely excited about something, you will persevere even when there are no immediate results. Motivation that comes from within is stronger than motivation that comes from others.
92,000 views - the result of hard work
When I look back today, I see how far I have come. My blog has reached almost 92,000 views - something that seemed impossible at the beginning. But this was not the result of luck or external support. It was a result of:
✔ Discipline - writing even when I didn't feel like it.
✔ Constant learning - from blogging to marketing to English.
✔ Perseverance - because I believed that eventually success would come.
Nobody told me how to write, how to promote or how to reach an audience. I discovered everything on my own. And today I know that this is my strength - because if I could do it once, I can do it again and again.
Tips for those who don't have support but want to succeed
If you are also in a situation where no one is there for you, here are some key tips that have helped me:
⭐ Don't wait for permission or approval from others. If you want something, start it. No one else will do it for you.
⭐ Learn on your own. Knowledge is out there - YouTube, blogs, books, online courses... it's all there, you just have to explore.
⭐ Perseverance is more important than talent. You don't need to be the best, you need to be constant.
⭐ Set small goals and achieve them. Instead of dreaming big, focus on the next small step.
Conclusion
If I had listened to those who did not believe in me, my blog would not exist today. But I believed in myself and I persevered, despite my doubts and without support. That is what has brought me to where I am now.
If you are in a similar situation, let me tell you - you don't need permission from others to start following your dreams. Start today, no matter how small a step it may seem. And in a few years' time, you too may be surprised at how far you have come.
