Insomnia

Today, I will talk about insomnia and how we can help ourselves before going to sleep.

Insomnia is not just a problem with falling asleep. It is a state where the mind cannot calm down, the body cannot find the right position, and thoughts just keep racing. Many of us experience this from time to time, while some experience it regularly. And although it is unpleasant, there are ways to gently and naturally alleviate it.

1. Calming the body

Before going to sleep, take the time to truly connect with your body. Deep breathing, gentle stretching, or a massage with lavender essential oil can release the tension that has built up during the day.

2. Warm bath or shower

Warm water helps the body relax. You can prepare a bath with the addition of salt, essential oils, or even chamomile. Water calms the nervous system and prepares us for a good night's rest.

3. Herbal teas

Teas made from lemon balm, chamomile, or passionflower help calm the body and mind. It is important to drink them slowly and mindfully. This is how we begin to create an evening ritual of calm.

4. Step away from screens

At least an hour before bedtime, step away from your phone, TV, and computer. Blue light inhibits the release of melatonin, the sleep hormone. Instead, read a book or listen to soft music.

5. Gratitude journal or writing down your thoughts

Writing before bed can be a miracle cure. We can write down what is bothering us or write down three things we are grateful for. This calms the mind and redirects our attention to the positive.

6. Gentle visualization

Before going to sleep, we can imagine a safe, pleasant place—nature, a warm blanket, an embrace of light. Visualization brings us to a state where the body and mind begin to relax.

It is important not to force ourselves to sleep, but to accept it gently and be patient. When we allow ourselves to just be present, without pressure, sleep often comes naturally.
