Today's new installment of Autumn is a dish that has some great ideas for a fall-style lunch or dinner.
Cooking and Baking Fall Goodies
Autumn Soups and Stews
When you suddenly feel the urge to pull out all your thick, cozy sweaters and put on your fluffy slippers, know that fall is just around the corner. Fall is the perfect time for soup and stew recipes.
There's something about the start of cooler temperatures and the changing leaves that makes the idea of snuggling up at home and warming up seem like a better activity than any other.
Beef and Butternut Squash Stew
You'll often find this winter squash roasted with brown sugar or mashed into a wonderful fall soup, but this year we're changing things up. The aroma of this stew simmering on the stove is powerful; it's perfect for a cold or rainy day spent indoors. Serve with crusty sourdough or cornbread and a glass of red wine.
Chicken Chili
Full of seasonal vegetables, spices, and shredded grilled chicken, this is a fresher alternative to traditional beef chili. The convenience of deli chicken, the nutritious goodness of seasonal vegetables, and the full flavor of traditional chili spices come together in this delicious chicken chili pot.
Onion Soup
Is there anything more comforting on a cold day than a hot bowl of French onion soup? Especially with a thick slice of toasted bread topped with melted cheese and lots of caramelized onions.
French onion soup, or soupe à l'oignon gratinée, is a classic French dish made with caramelized onions and beef stock or broth. The soup is topped with bread and cheese, then gratinated to rich, gooey perfection. Traditionally served in a ceramic pot with a handle.
Roasting seasonal fruit
It’s incredibly simple: no peeling or other special techniques, no measuring or precise timing required. Just slice up as much fruit as you want to use, peeled or not, and throw it in the pan.
Drizzle with a little wine, a little honey, maybe a few sprigs of herbs, and let it cook until it’s just right for your taste or the time you have. Serve warm or cold with or without ice cream. Delicious and naturally gluten-free and dairy-free.
Creative fall dessert recipes
Fall flavors can include everything from apples and cinnamon, to cranberries, to bananas to roasted walnuts.
Pies and cookies are great, but if you want to celebrate this fall, cake is the way to go. The season is short, so get baking.
Looking for a sweet treat for breakfast this fall? Skip the same old pastries at your local coffee shop and bake your own banana bread. Try cranberry cake, apple donut cake, apple crisp cake, or apple coffee cake.
Looking for more than just an afternoon pick-me-up? That's what cookies are made for. Try pumpkin spice cookies, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, sweet potato cookies.
Try sweet potato cake, apple cheesecake, or pumpkin cheese roll.
These will make everyone you bake them for feel special this fall.
