How Do We Take Care of Our Mental Health? - School of Life

Today, I’m going to talk about how we take care of our mental health and why nurturing our inner world is just as important as caring for our physical body. In the daily hustle, when we are overwhelmed with information, external expectations, and a never-ending to-do list, we very quickly forget to listen to that quiet voice inside us telling us that we are tired or overworked. Mental health is not something we should take for granted or only remember when we find ourselves on the brink of burnout. It is an ongoing, daily process of consciously choosing whom and what we gift our energy, our attention, and our precious inner peace to.

The foundation of true care for mental health lies in the ability to set clear boundaries and drop the need for constant people-pleasing. When we dare to say "no" to things, people, and situations that drain us or force us to play roles that do not align with our truth, we perform the ultimate act of self-love. Caring for our mind also means allowing ourselves to feel all emotions—from anger and sadness to excitement—without judging ourselves or suppressing our experience. It is so important to know how to take time for a complete disconnect from the digital world, to find stillness in silence, and to engage in activities that don't just bring results or external validation, but simply fill our soul and bring pure joy.

Furthermore, we must learn to become an ally and best friend to our own mind, which means ending that strict, critical inner dialogue that constantly reminds us of our mistakes or flaws. When we begin treating ourselves with the same compassion, understanding, and patience that we would extend to a loved one, a solid foundation for stability is created across our entire energetic system. Mental health is built through small, consistent steps: through sufficient rest, connection with nature, honestly expressing our truth, and knowing that we always have the right to protect our peace from anything that pulls us down.
